
- Go with your feelings. See if you have a rapport with the builder. After all, who you choose will be in charge of creating your dream home, and you'll be spending a great deal of time collaborating with them.
- Find a builder who is capable of executing the scale of home you desire. Look at their portfolio. Tour previous homes they have built. Find out whether they offer the same level of service regardless of the home's square footage.
- Resource, interview and select an architect, designer and even landscaper who fits your sense of style and who compliments your personality. He or she will be another key member of your personalized Dream Team.
- Make sure you understand all the paperwork before construction begins. Once your floor plans and elevations have been confirmed, ask your builder to create a budget and schedule for your project. An expert should be able to translate your expectations clearly and concisely to figures on paper.
- Safety (M.O.L.), W.S.I.B. (Workplace Safety & Insurance Bureau), Tarion registered. Make sure that your builder complies with all ministry of labour regulations, and monitors all W.S.I.B. clearance certificates. Be sure that your builder is registered with Tarion to insure a warranty for your new home
